It’s an extra-special pleasure to get to photograph old friends. This beautiful family and I go way back, and our children have grown up together, just nine months apart in age. Although I can’t believe that Violet is six years old (where does the time go?), I know my own son is not far behind. Violet has started losing teeth, and I adore the gap-toothed smiles and all the joy in these photos. Her mom, Ann, has planned to order prints already framed so she can bypass the hassle of trying to find the perfect one. It is a brilliant idea; then your photos arrive ready to hang on the walls! Like most of our dads, James wasn’t necessarily thrilled with the idea of photos, but he was a champ and really got into things with a great attitude. He says he really loves having tangible photos around their home, to celebrate their love as a family.
The Carousel at the National Mall is a spot I adore shooting at, it’s a gorgeous location filled with lots of color, and has such rich history. It was built in 1947, and is the only operating carousel in Washington, DC. It’s pretty iconic, and was just right for this lovely trio. Yes, I got a little dizzy shooting on a moving carousel, but it was well worth it!
