{baby} capturing the last days of maternity leave | washington dc children’s photographer

the last days of maternity leave

are bittersweet at best. The days of being home together, a pair, are coming to an end, and a return to the workday world is at hand. The separation can be both longed-for and dreaded, and you hold those two feelings together in your hands, not quite ready for either of them.

Miss G and her mama were beautiful in the early evening spring light. After waiting out so many cold days, the hints of warmth were so welcome that Miss G didn’t even mind the crisp coolness of the thick-leafed buttercups covering the ground in the woods where we met for her session.

I love these photos and hope they mean the world to Miss G’s mama now, and to Miss G years from now when she looks back at this little window onto her life as a baby. I know she’ll see how her mother’s affection has been there for her since before she can even remember.
