{family} mother + son become their own works of art at the Hirschhorn | washington dc family documentary photography

“he’s growing so fast,

I’ve been meaning to do this… I wish I had done this sooner…”

I hear this a lot from moms of older kids.

One thing is true: as our kids get older, life seems busier, it feels harder to schedule those photo sessions that we made sure to get more often when they were little.

I was so excited when Nicole contacted me about scheduling a session for her and her son, and she loved the idea of planning their shoot in a place that had meaning to them- not just a park or garden somewhere. Nicole is a fashion designer and her 8-yr-old shares her love of art and design, so the Hirschhorn was their choice for an outing that would let them enjoy their day in a natural way, and a perfect place to create portraits that fit the personality of this creatively inclined duo.

Afterward, we went out for pizza!
