I sat across the table
from my friend Ann. Our kids, just 9 months apart in age, played together in another room, and we were probably half-working, half-procrastinating (Ann is the bookkeeper for Red Turtle Photography). She said, “My mom wants to know what I want for my birthday…”
“A family photo session with me, of course!” I joked.
I was only kidding, but it turned out that WAS what Ann wanted, and a few weeks later, I met Ann, Jimmy and Violet at Jones Point Park, as the sun was lazily setting on an entirely perfect early summer day. The results might be one of my favorite family sessions ever (and not just because they’re one of my favorite families ever). I think Violet may have singlehandedly made me fall in love with dandelions. And the light at Jones Point, reliably is the stuff of photographer’s dreams.
Ann loves summer, and I wanted these pictures to evoke that for her. Jimmy loves Ann and Violet, so for him, I wanted to convey their strong connections. Violet is a bright, funny, adventurous girl who loves sparkly shoes and speaks her mind. She can wink. She’ll blow on a puffball if you make her, but she prefers popping them between her hands sending fluff in all directions. I hope they love these photos as much I loved making them.
