I can’t help always feeling honored to walk into a family’s room on the maternity floor, into the cozy chaos of suitcases and slippers juxtaposed with all the strange-yet-familiar hospital bed, carts, cords… a nest where a new human is snuggled, watched over, fed, adored. And tired parents rest up, giving and receiving love and care in the sheltered rhythms of the first few hours after birth.
My bliss is photographing children + families together. While constantly working to improve my craft (the technical side of things) I also constantly listen to my own inner voice, the art side of my work, which is where I learn to see heartfelt emotion and expressions of connection between family members, where I learn to see personality in a such a way that it can be reflected back through the photograph I am creating. I believe every family has a story and every image I create should be a true picture of your story. Some parts of our stories are universal – mothering, fathering, the delight of a happy child, the connection in a touch or a gaze. And some parts of our stories are uniquely our own. The artist in me is happiest when I’ve found both the universal and the unique, and deliver images that light you up inside.
