On the verge of his very first year | Washington DC Children and Family Photography

that first year…

When a parent reaches that first year milestone, it feels like they can finally exhale, and say, “We made it!” Whew! That first birthday comes with feelings of trepidation, joy, and delight, mixed with anticipation, fear of the unknown, and overwhelming love. Those emotions are the ones I hoped to capture with this documentary session.

Lots of parents opt for a cake smash with elaborate props (nothing wrong with those!), but you’ve probably noticed that I love the heart behind a sweet, emotive session at home. This is Arthur, and his parents Marion and Blaise. They are the loveliest family, full of joy, and sharing a deep bond. They wanted this shoot to take place in this apartment, because they moved in when he was just a newborn, and this session brought things full circle. This is my fourth session during his first year.

I joined them in the late afternoon hours, for Arthur’s dinnertime, reading and playtime, and a few splashes in the bath. Right now, this sweet boy’s favorites include eating cheese and bananas, and reading “You’re Doing Great, Baby”, and bath time is his favorite time of day! Thanks to this beautiful trio for allowing me into your lives.

“This too shall pass, you whisper to me
Each moment is new, hang in there, just be
You’ll still make mistakes, because all parents do
Breathe and feel love for yourself
You’ll get through”

Nicoke - So sweet! These are treasures mom and dad will have of this time in his life. They grow so fast and we quickly forget how little they were and how we interacted with them at this stage. Love it!ReplyCancel
