When I met Kathleen and her family, I knew I’d love them. And, turns out my suspicions were right, because I fell right in love with this adorable family and their pups. Kathleen let me know they were open to a documentary-style approach to their shoot, and they entrusted me to capture their gorgeous, enviable Saturday morning together. I met them at their beautiful, inviting home, and did some shooting while they got ready to head to one of their favorite spots: the local farmer’s market. I was in awe watching Kathleen and her husband, Mark, calmly and patiently manage the chaos that comes with three smart, active kids. Their kiddos are wonderful, by the way. Funny, articulate, and full of energy that brings life to a household. Once we headed out the door, the market awaited us, and it was something to behold.
Their local market is filled to the brim with top-notch produce, fresh, crisp juices, baked goods, and other goodies. We had the background of local musicians and artists, and had plenty of space to walk around and roam. There was a park area where the dogs and kids could run around nearby, on the banks of the Potomac River in Founders Park. The kids dreamt up plenty of stories, songs, and splashed into the flotsam of the river. They also wore out those sweet pups with lots of games of fetch.
Sessions like these fill my heart to overflowing. They are about more than just “perfect images”, they are about capturing the real lives that you are living. The everyday moments that you’ll miss more than anything when your kids go off to college. Images like these celebrate the real power of being a family, and the life-altering joy of watching your little ones grow up.
