i don’t think of myself
as a portrait photographer anymore. There’s too much natural beauty in the real moments of life and too much joy in capturing them without manipulating them, to spend much time “setting up the perfect shot”. This isn’t to say that a documentary approach is the only way. But for me, for the photographer and woman I am, this is the right way to photograph families.
I think this beautiful session with Virginie and Ben and their new baby daughter is an example of everything I love about creating beautiful photos out of the real moments that new parents experience.
::The textures of life reveal themselves and the emotions are almost tangible.
::The cradle of your first baby’s head in your hand, your own obsession with their every sound and expression.
::The duet of two new parents dressing the wriggling little human in impossibly tiny clothing.
::A father waiting as mother and babe connect in the bond of breastfeeding – at once mystical and profoundly ordinary.
::The scent of their soft skin when you nuzzle in for a kiss. The hopefulness in the first few seconds after lying them in their crib: will they sleep or will they wake?
I look forward to sharing more from this newborn session soon!
